Please be aware that drivers on Oahu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island may NOT use cell phone and other electronic hand-held devices while driving, unless a hands-free device is used. This allows police officers to issue a citation when they see a driver holding a mobile electronic device, even if it is not being used. The law includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, PDAs, pagers, text-messaging devices, laptop computers, video-game players, and digital cameras. Fines are $97 on Oahu, $97 on Kauai, $100 on Maui and $150 on the Big Island for the first offense. For more information visit www.HonoluluPD.org on Oahu, www.Kauai.gov/Police/ on Kauai, www.co.maui.hi.us/police on Maui and www.HawaiiPolice.com on the Big Island.
Stinging box jellyfish often "invade" west and south shore beaches between 7 to 11 days after the full moon—around May 25 to 27 and June 24 to 26. The advisory is usually for Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, Waikiki, and Ala Moana beaches, but ocean conditions could bring jellyfish in on off-cycle days and/or to other beaches. For a daily report on beach conditions, call (808) 922-3888. When box jellyfish are in the water, lifeguards will have this sign posted. Stay out of the water. If you are stung, seek assistance from a lifeguard and, if you have an allergic reaction, call 911! For mor information visit www.808JellyFish.com or www.waquarium.org.Atlantis Adventures.
